Who's Behind This

Over twenty-five years I've designed, built and run a great many learning formats: classroom courses and seminars, webinars, e-learning, whole multi-module programmes, gamification, learning videos, explainers, microlearning, camps and exams. Real craft, not didactic arts-and-crafts.

I don't chase every hype that goes by. First I stay open to new signals, trends, developments, especially in EdTech. Then I test them. For substance. For relevance. And I weigh what's left and translate it for the people who'll use it.

Half-knowledge gives me the creeps. When a new subject grabs me, I go to the bottom of it. I dig in, take the whole architecture apart, and want the full picture before I derive a single use case or even think about building anything.

The rounds with my dog have grown dear to me. They're my deliberate escapes from the day, the walks where my thoughts sort themselves out and new ideas turn up. Other people sing in the shower. I take the dog out, to talk to the countryside and let the ideas come.

Leadership, to me, has many faces. I've had the chance to live it in all sorts of settings: as a department head, line manager, project lead and, now and then, conductor of the whole event. It was never about stroking my ego. It was about being the team's sparring partner, coach and back-up.

I'm a pathfinder, a tracker, a tour guide. Curiosity, a low hum of creativity, a pinch of thoughtfulness and a compulsive need to understand things, that's what my nudges are made of.
